Blue & Albany
I wanted a design that could be appreciated by those without sight as well as others. I spent an afternoon in an art gallery with a blind friend when we were in our teens. Texture was so important and she needed to be able to touch the work in order to appreciate it. Because I was living in western Canada when this design had it's inception, wheat became an obvious inspiration. I wanted to feel that we are seeing the wheat through a window pane.
This glaze design came about at a time when people were moving from earth tones to other colours in their home decorating. Consequently, I mixed the brown of the Albany clay with blues so that it would blend in with what a customer already had in their home and yet add a touch of colour along the way.
This glaze features hand carved detailing.
Please note that actual glaze colour may differ from the photos shown.
